Earlier today RFS Commissioner Shane Fitszimssons said there were over 100 fires across the state, which all posed potential to spread and develop into the afternoon.
"The wind gusts along the coast are looking like they will be approaching gale force, so quite dangerous, quite damaging, strong enough to bring large limbs of trees down, disrupt powerlines, things like that," she said. “You can’t really predict it,” he said, adding spot fires had already started appearing. “Before, I was freaking out, but not any more.”
Train services will also be disrupted, so far the line between MacArthur and Moss Vale has been affected. While buses have replaced some trains, there are areas buses cannot go through including the Bargo and Tahmoor area. The state has also endured record temperatures and fire danger ratings after experiencing a long, dry spell, SA Country Fire Service Chief Officer Mark Jones said.
NSW Emergency Services Minister David Elliott said this was the “largest deployment of emergency services personnel this state's ever seen”.“They're there four days before Christmas to keep families safe, so I think it's appropriate that the people of NSW give them two things: patience and common sense,” Mr Elliott said.
