Multiple bushfires are burning amid 'severe' fire danger conditions on Friday morning.

"The City’s homelessness unit has advised outreach services to take additional bottles of water on their patrols for people sleeping rough to manage potential dehydration and throat irritation," she said.

"The City will continue to provide this response whenever there is a build-up of smoke in the city," she said. It's the tiny particles called PM2.5 that are the worry in bushfire smoke, and unfortunately standard cloth and paper masks do not filter out those particles. "For anyone working outdoors, airborne particulate matter can pose a genuine health risk," Unions NSW secretary Mark Morey said.Face masks offer little protection against the small particles, and Mr Morey said the poor air was of particular concern to those with health conditions like emphysema and heart problems.
