SES Chief Superintendent Dallas Burnes has provided some more insight into yesterday’s flooding event at Eugowra after a dozen rescue helicopters had to be rushed in as flash-flooding abruptly hit the small town.
“The hardest thing is predicting where the rain is going to fall and the impact of when it hits the ground. It is a big state,” he said. There are 16 emergency warnings in place across the state.Eugowra and Forbes, in NSW’s Central West region, have been inundated by intense floodwaters. “The amount of water wasn’t expected and it was described as like two tsunamis of water coming through about 700mm deep in succession,” he said about the flooding in Eugowra.
The Bureau of Meteorology said major flooding would occur at Forbes from early on Tuesday and water levels would peak around 10.8 metres on Wednesday – similar to the level reached in the June 1952 flood.
