The government wants to reduce the number of brumbies running wild in Kosciuszko National Park as the animals impact dozens of native threatened species.
Some of the impacted species are mountain pygmy possums, southern and northern corroboree frogs, Guthega skinks and she-oak skinks, broad-toothed rats, Kelton's leek orchids, blue-tongued greenhoods and stocky galaxias, a small freshwater fish. "Recent reports show that without action, wild horses could tip threatened species to extinction," Sharpe said.NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe.The government is required to reduce the number of brumbies to 3000 by 2027 using various control methods.The government also allows ground shooting.Now it is proposing aerial shooting as another control method to bring the number of brumbies down.
