Unions in NSW could face significantly higher fines for illegal strikes after the state government proposed the changes in an emergency cabinet meeting.
The government hopes to stop industrial action planned for later this year by transport workers, teachers and healthcare workers.
The new penalties could see unions fined $55,000 for the first day a strike is launched against an Industrial Commission ruling.
