NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet says the state government will establish a “permanent reconstruction body” following the release of a report into the management of the floods which hit the Northern Rivers and the Hawkesbury-Nepean region this year.
“It will be a legislative body with legislative powers, very much based on the Queensland reconstruction authority,” Mr Perrottet said during a media conference on Wednesday.
“We are committed to ensuring that as we have future development that it doesn’t occur in areas which are subject to significant flooding. “In addition to that, those people who have lost their homes, who are in dire circumstances, we will work as a result of this report to implement a land swap and buy-back scheme that will be targeted in specific areas.”
