The NSW government is facing increasing pressure to mandate mask wearing on public transport after a passenger returned a positive result after travelling on a Sydney bus in peak-hour traffic.
However, the state government remains committed to an advisory as opposed to a mandatory policy on mask wearing.
Authorities used CCTV footage to collect data on mask wearing which revealed approximately 30 per cent of passengers are doing so of their own volition. More than 30 bus and train routes in NSW have now posted public health alerts. The state recorded seven new COVID-19 cases overnight. Image: Getty
