Thousands of people have gathered out the front of Sydney's Town Hall for an "emergency" climate change rally.
Many of the protesters are wearing masks and holding signs calling for action against climate change. Greens MP David Shoebridge, who is listed as an organiser on promotional material for the event, told the crowd: "We are gathered here today while our forests are on fire we are in a global city that has been shrouded in toxic smoke for weeks and weeks on end. Also speaking at the event, activist Uncle Bruce Shillingsworth said people had gathered because "we care about the future of our children and their children's children".
