agriculture ministers agreed in July to adopt the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry “There is a period of time to work with industry to make sure that we’re getting the process right so that the standards can be met whilst also not causing issues,” she said.“When you have the largest state jurisdiction, in terms of the industry, suggesting that they’re not going to be regulating the standards anytime soon, other states and territories are left in a difficult position,” the Australian Alliance for Animals policy director, Dr Jed Goodfellow, said.
“We’re working with industry to implement the standards as required in a timely manner … whilst also being mindful of impacts on business and supply and costs and all of those other issues,” she said.“NSW Farmers acknowledges the position of the NSW Government and welcome the desire for ongoing industry consultation to ensure a fit-for-purpose solution that is mindful of the impacts on business, as well as food supply and food costs,” he said.
