Premier Mark McGowan has declared there are “COVID-positive states and there are non-COVID states” and demanded the national plan be “recalibrated” to reflect that.
Australia’s National Cabinet agreed in July on a pathway out of the pandemic which established phases where restrictions would be lifted based on vaccination targets.
But Western Australia has led the way in refusing to open the state up to the rest of the country at 70 and 80 per cent while Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory continue with their COVID outbreaks. “All it means is the virus is imported, people will die we’ll have terrible economic dislocation,” Mr McGowan said.
