Anthony Albanese has swiftly congratulated Mark Speakman after the New South Wales Liberal leader went against the federal party's position on the Voice to Parliament.

Mr Speakman revealed on Saturday he was personally backing the establishment of the advisory body in a move at odds with the federal Liberal Party's stance.the federal Liberal Party was against the Voice but supported constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians.

The NSW opposition has agreed not to bind MPs to a position," he said. "We live in a great country, but our poor, and often disastrous, outcomes for Indigenous Australians are our nation's greatest public policy failure.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he congratulated Mr Speakman"for his very clear statements that he will be voting Yes and supporting Yes in the referendum campaign, following on from Dominic Perrottet's support for a Yes vote". as he believes it is"about moving forward together as a nation with unity and purpose".
