NSW Premier Chris Minns is facing scrutiny over the government’s response to the pro-Palestine protests at the Sydney Opera House.

In documents tabled to state parliament, senior police expressed concerns about unrest on the streets of Sydney a day before the protest took place. Mr Minns admitted he did not conduct a risk assessment prior to lighting up the Opera House in the colours of the Israeli flag but said “my understanding is that NSW Police did”.

On the day of the protest Mr Minns was on leave but did in fact receive 11 phone calls about the Opera House and potential unrest – seven were with his multicultural minister, three with the Jewish Board of Deputies but only one with Police Minister Yasmin Catley. However, Mr Minns admitted those conversations did not extend to police and he has accepted responsibility for the incident.
