New South Wales has recorded its first COVID-19 death linked to the Omicron variant. 7NEWS
A total of 6324 new infections - a drop of 70 from a day earlier - were diagnosed from more than 97,000 tests on Sunday, with the state also reporting another three deaths.One of the deaths was a man in his 80s from western Sydney.
“He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions,” the health department said.NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard.It is believed to be the first reported death linked to the Omicron variant in Australia.While new cases dropped by 70, the number of people hospitalised has doubled in the past week.Testing numbers also decreased by more than 12,000 compared to the day before.
Adding to the state’s coronavirus concerns are hundreds of people receiving falsely negative test results on Christmas Day.
