Northern Territory children's commissioner Colleen Gwynne appears in court for the first time with her lawyers telling the hearing she will fight the abuse of office charge.

Colleen Gwynne, the Northern Territory children's commissioner, has appeared in court for the first time since she was charged with abuse of office.She is currently on leave from her role as NT children's commissionerfollowing an investigation by the Special References Unit of Northern Territory Police.

No plea was formally entered, but defence lawyer Giles O'Brien-Hartcher told the Darwin Local Court the matter "will be contested"."I will vigorously defend the charge," she wrote in the July statement. In the short court appearance today, Mr O'Brien-Hartcher requested that a brief of evidence be served by November 4.
