The Prime Minister of Romania has cancelled his attendance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony after a Romanian athlete was stripped of her medal.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has announced a boycott of the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony after gymnast Ana Barbosu had her bronze medal stripped by an appeal from the US gymnastics team.
ð·ð´ðºð¸ Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu realizing that the successful protest by USA's Jordan Chiles meant that she was pushed from 3rd to 4th place, not getting a medal.Mr Ciolacu has described the situation as “scandalous” and “dishonourable” while comparing the incident to Soviet Union corruption.
“I remember very well how, in communism, the Russians would steal from us at the Olympics, and we’d try to argue with them with no chance of winning.” Barbosu had been posing for photos, draped in a Romanian flag, when she was seen collapsing into tears as Chiles was bumped up from fifth place to third.
After the event, Prime Minister Ciolacu expressed his outrage: “I couldn't look at her tears and accept calmly that something like this is perfectly normal!”
