The daughter of Olympic gymnastics gold medallist Mary Lou Retton has revealed her famous mother is “fighting for her life” in an intensive care unit. The 55-year-old American has lost the ability to breathe autonomously after contracting “a very rare form of pneumonia”. Retton’s daughter, McKenna Kelley, revealed the news in an Instagram story to her 52,000 followers. “On behalf of my sisters and I, we need y’all’s help,” she wrote.
“We ask that if you could help in any way, that 1) you PRAY! and 2) if you could help us with finances for the hospital bill. “ANYTHING, absolutely anything, would be so helpful for my family and my mom.” The Spotfund page had raised almost $110,000 early on Wednesday afternoon, smashing its goal of $50,000 out of the park, from more than 2200 donors.
