The biggest and most crucial step for cricket’s re-inclusion in the Olympics has been taken after it was one of five sports officially proposed for inclusion by the organising committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
Cricket’s cause had heavy backing from the International Olympic Committee but needed support from those in charge of the Games who wanted approval to include flag-football for the very first time to give cricket the tick.
Cricket’s inclusion for the first time in more than 100 years also means it’s a lock for the Brisbane Games in 2032. LA28 chairperson Casey Wasserman said cricket was the sort of sport which could “ignite the imagination on the field of play and drive culture off it”.
