Queensland records 5,699 new COVID-19 cases

There are now 25,924 active cases in the state, but Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said authorities believed there were many more unconfirmed cases in the community.

Dr Gerrard said he was unable to provide any further details on the suspected COVID-related death of a man in his 30s on the Gold Coast on Sunday, as it was being investigated by the coroner. There have been lengthy delays at testing sites cross the state over the new year long weekend, with authorities saying the system was under strain, partly due to private pathology operators being closed.Dr Gerrard said sick people who could not access a test should isolate and assume they had been infected.

"And also I would suggest that you seek medical advice if you have not got a clear diagnosis of COVID-19, if your symptoms are continuing on and not improving after the third day."Only three reasons for Queenslanders to get PCR test
