One rural town braces for 15-year record week of scorchers as 'unusually warm' air mass closes in on Central Australia

The high-pressure system is set to break the 15-year record of the hottest seven-day streak, according to current forecasts. Sky News Meteorologist Alison Osborne told SkyNews.com.au the temperature in Alice Springs on Monday morning was the warmest since April while in the coming days the rural town was in for a series of scorchers which were hot for summer standards.

“Current forecast is for seven days in a row to hit or exceed 30C – which would be the equal longest run for any August since 2009. Coober Pedy, in northern South Australia, is expected to reach 33C on Friday and 34C on Saturday and could also surpass its winter temperature record of 34.3C.
