Breaking: A child is dead and several are critically injured after falling 10 metres when a wind gust lifted a jumping castle into the air at a Tasmanian school

“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those involved,” Tasmania police said in a statement.“Police and emergency services remain on the scene of a serious incident at Hillcrest Primary School in Devonport, after a wind event caused a jumping castle to lift into the air,” it said.

“Several children fell from a height of about 10 metres around 10am and are currently receiving medical treatment at the scene as well as in hospitals. Sadly, one child has died and a number of others are critical. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those involved.” Footage from the scene shows parents arriving outside the school and students streaming out the gates. A wall of blue tarpaulins appears to have been erected on the grass.“There has been an accident onsite at our school,” a post on the Hillcrest Primary School Community Facebook page reads.“We are closing the school for the rest of the day. We ask that parents come to collect their children as a matter of urgency.
