New South Wales Police have revealed scammers are 'preying' one particular group of people in Australia and warned they should hang up or report calls from a specific scammer.

Chinese international students in New South Wales have been warned to be vigilant about suspicious calls involving"virtual kidnapping".

The woman transferred $20,000 to an offshore account and demanded a further $174,000. Police found the woman before she sent more money to the scammer.She was threatened with deportation unless she paid $280,000 and the teen was instructed to fake her kidnapping so the family could pay the ransom money.
