OPINION: The addition of the latest Intel processor has brought the Dell XPS 13 Plus up to speed with Apple’s lightweight laptop in almost every respect.
There’s a certain amount of nostalgia, reviewing the Dell XPS 13 Plus as we have been doing in the Digital Life Labs these past three days.
With the passage of time, the rest of the world has caught up somewhat and the InfinityEdge display itself is no longer the huge drawcard it once was. But it’s still great, and its near-total lack of bezels still means the Dell XPS 13 Plus is incredibly compact considering its 13.4-inch screen size. Oh, how we miss the battery life we were getting out of the MacBook Air last week. It was roughly double the 6.5 hours of productivity-style usage we’ve been getting from the Dell these past few days, despite the MacBook Air being every bit as powerful as the Dell , and despite the Air having a slightly larger display than the Dell.
It’s interesting to note that the 14th Generation Intel chip, due towards the end of this year, is supposed to have a whopping 50 per cent improvement in performance-per-watt, as well as major improvements in graphics performance.Assuming Apple stands still and doesn’t come out with an even-more-efficient M3 chip, that would at least get Intel-based notebooks into the same ballpark as comparable MacBooks, even though battery life would still be lagging by an hour or three.
Windows 11 has fewer annoying quirks than macOS, and important productivity features tend to be better on Windows, too.
