Opinion: Memorial Day means more than a day off from work [Opinion]
A time of year when a three-day weekend, picnics and hot dogs, and time off on the last Monday of May seem synonymous with Memorial Day.
Yet, Memorial Day is a day to honor and revere those whose life ended while in service to our U.S. Armed Forces, abroad and at home.While many veterans and civilians, alike, will gather to spend time together, so will the families who had to live on without their loved one. We understand that a long weekend offers an opportunity to be with others or to do things we enjoy on a day off, yet, somewhere in between the hotdogs and parades, take a moment to remember those who died while in service to our nation that grants us such privileges.
