Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced $563.4 million will be spent on “significant extensions and expansions” to existing aged care support programs as part of the national aged care COVID-19 plan. The Health Minister outlined key areas which would receive additional funding in a bid to protect vulnerable elderly Australians from the coronavirus.

He said support for facilities would be extended until the end of February 2021 in order to reduce workforce gaps and provide for PPE needs and the extension of support for aged care workers in COVID-19 areas to operate on a single workforce basis. The expansion of short-term home support and the extension of the aged care workforce retention payment was listed by Mr Hunt as a critical area to which funds would be directed. Mr Hunt reiterated the cost of the new measures at $563.

Media diversity 'should extend into ideology' | Sky News AustraliaMedia diversity 'should extend into ideology' | Sky News AustraliaFreelance journalist Ky Chow says media diversity should extend into ideology, considering the underrepresentation of conservative opinions in many prominant news organisations. \n\n“A recent report from Media Diversity Australia showed that Australia's newsroom has proportionately less non-white on air staff than the general population, and definitely among the news directors themselves,” he said.\n\n“But the most common suggestions to fix this problem - targets, official policies on cultural diversity or even just talking about it - are often shot down by conservatives. \n\n“But maybe I and other conservatives would sing a different tune if those same policy ideas were used to bring diversity of thought to newsrooms.'\n\nMr Chow said conservative opinions were underrepresented in many news organisations and suggested it may be time for 'concrete policies to allow for the diversity of thought needed to fairly represent Australia'.\n\n“But left leaning newsrooms, and I'm sure many from the conservative background, might push back against that for the same reasons that many newsrooms push back at the idea of targets or quotas of non-white Australians,” he said. \n\n“So what's the answer?\n \n'If it isn't that coercive policy, how can we improve representation and in particular diversity of perspective and opinion in Australian media?'\n\nImage: Getty
