Two men accused of the daylight assassination of underworld figure Gavin Preston have pleaded not guilty to murder, with the pair now set to face a Supreme Court trial.

Two men accused of killing Melbourne crime figure Gavin Preston outside a cafe in broad daylight have pleaded not guilty. Jaeden Tito and Rabii Zahabe are now set to face trial for Preston's alleged murder in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

The men charged with murder and attempted murder, Jaeden Tito and Rabii Zahabe, formally entered not guilty pleas during a brief hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday afternoon.An initial directions hearing was scheduled for September 2, before other pre-trial hearings are held. A trial before a jury is unlikely to occur before 2025.Mr Tito was arrested about a month after the shooting, while Mr Zahabe was taken into custody earlier this year.

His killing at the busy Keilor cafe shocked Melburnians, with police alleging two male offenders dressed in black were travelling in an Audi SUV before and after the shooting.Unemployment rate climbs to 4.
