The Premier and other ministers in the Palaszczuk Government have declared their 'full confidence' in Queensland's police commissioner.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and police minister Mark Ryan on Saturday backed top cop Katarina Carroll amid a Commission of Inquiry into Queensland Police Service Responses to Domestic and Family Violence. the Premier had"confidence" in Ms Carroll, with Mr Ryan also adding he too had"full confidence" in the commissioner. conceded there was a significant issue with misogyny, sexism and racism within the Queensland police forceStream more Australian news with Flash.
"The difficulty I have is, what is widespread? Widespread is ingrained, it is entrenched. It clearly implies that most people in the organisation are like that," she said.The inquiry had heard deputy commissioner Paul Taylor made an inappropriate remark during a speech at a police leadership conference earlier in the year.
"Yesterday, an incident I was involved in at a conference was brought to the attention of the Commission of Inquiry into QPS responses to domestic and family violence," he said in a statement. "It was never my intention to offend anyone, and I am deeply apologetic for the harm it has caused. I was remorseful immediately after the incident, and the Commissioner addressed the matter with me soon after."
