For the first time since 2012, the Australian Opals are into the Olympic semifinals after defeating Serbia.
The Australia n women's basketball team won 85-76 at Paris's Bercy Arena on Wednesday to book a likely semifinal with either seven-time defending champions the United States, or Nigeria.
The US has not lost a game at the Olympics since 1992, notching 58 consecutive wins, 56 of those by double figures.Australia led the US at half-time in their London 2012 semifinal before losing by 13 points, eventually settling for bronze. Wednesday's victory was comprehensive at both ends, with tremendous defensive pressure complemented by methodical offence and sensible shooting.
