Pro-Palestinian activists have taken to NSW parliament in the second protest action this week, condemning the Albanese government’s response to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Another parliamentary sitting has erupted into chaos this week after a group of pro-Palestinian protesters staged an unruly demonstration during NSW's Question Time on Wednesday.
Footage circulated on social media – the public gallery is not permitted to be filmed during coverage of parliamentary sittings – which showed a group of about five to 10 people continuing to chant loudly while security attempted to usher them out. Some protesters were heard yelling “shame on you” at the MPs who looked on from below, while others displayed peace signs and donned Keffiyehs during the brief outburst. One protester was heard screaming:"f**k you Chris Minns".
Both incidents come amid heaping pressure on Labor from Palestine-aligned groups to be more vocal against Israel’s continued onslaughts on Gaza and the mounting toll on civilian lives. “Shamefully, hours earlier, Labor voted again to continue their support of the state of Israel’s invasion of Gaza, after 162 days of slaughter & famine. The Gov needs to be held to account.”
While Ms Leong has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause, she has come under intense fire in recent months after shocking comments relating to the Jewish community. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese blasted Ms Leong shortly after, condemning the Newtown MP's comments.
