Labor continues to face backlash at Question Time over changes to superannuation as well as growing scrutiny over its deal with the Greens to pass the National Reconstruction Fund. Watch Question Time live.

Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has rubbished demands from the Greens, arguing fossil fuels cannot be “switched off overnight”.

Leader Adam Bandt is threatening to derail Labor’s climate agenda unless it commits to opening no new coal or gas mines. “The Australian economy is still very reliant on minerals and mining for the wealth that we generate that pays for the services and life that we want,” she told Sky News Australia. Ms Plibersek said that while Labor has “massive” plans to transition to 82 per cent renewables in the grid by 2030, fossil fuels will need to play a role in the interim.

“We are still going to see a reliance on coal and gas. This is not a sector of the economy that could be switched off overnight.”
