Oceanside Amtrak ticket office to close temporarily as summer travel season kicks into high gear
Rail travel ticked up a notch Monday when passenger trains resumed service after a six-week suspension between San Diego and Orange counties.
Contractors for the city will continue working to stabilize the slope beneath the historic Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens. A 12-foot-tall barrier wall completed last week will protect trains from any falling rocks or debris. City officials have not said when the project will be completed.“I didn’t want to drive,” said Kevin Riley, a Los Angeles resident at the Oceanside station Monday afternoon. He rode the train down over the weekend to attend the Oceanside Plein Air Art Festival.
Opening up the rails through San Clemente again allowed Amtrak, which had reduced daily trips because of the suspension, to return to its normal schedule of 10 daily round-trip trains between San Diego and Los Angeles. Some Amtrak passenger services remain temporarily unavailable because of budget-saving cuts made during the suspension.
