Some regular visitors of the Canberra Hospital say finding a parking spot is an ongoing challenge and they fear the situation will worsen after a new emergency department was opened last month.
The 70-year-old travels from Goulburn to take her mother, who has dementia, to hospital appointments and surgeries. But despite the recent expansion of the hospital, CHS said just 30 additional spots had been made available — and construction spots for 79 more were nearly complete. So much so that she decided to post about her parking woes on a Canberra Facebook page, and the response was overwhelming.
Angela Brown says despite having a disability parking permit, the spots she can find are still too far away from her appointments."It's just such a long way from parking, and for people who have chronic illnesses like me, heart disease, or is at risk of falls," Ms Brown said.
