WA's peak medical body has raised concerns about St John Ambulance's capacity to cope with demand at the height of what is predicted to be a severe flu season.St John Ambulance said it was resuming normal operations on Saturday morning after warning of delays on FridayMark McGowan denied the health system was underfundedPerth residents they could expect delays in response times if they called triple-0 for an ambulance.
"Well done to all, to our amazing team in the State Operations Centre, to our people on the road and those behind the scenes," he said in a statement.St John Ambulance said 22 per cent of its Perth metropolitan fleet was ramped on Friday.But Australian Medical Association WA president Mark Duncan-Smith warned the strain caused by COVID-19 would soon be compounded by the flu.
Dr Duncan-Smith blamed the ambulance crisis on the state government's "chronic underinvestment" in the health system.
