NSW councils will receive a major cash boost to help repair treacherous potholes and roads that have been decimated by months of extreme rainfall.

The new Regional and Local Roads Repair program will be split with $280 million to go to regional councils and the remaining $220 million to be spent by Greater Sydney councils.

“It’s a very good announcement because what it will do is give those regional councils and some councils in Sydney as well the money they need to get out now while the sun’s shining and fix those roads,” he said. “This announcement has also responded to a call from the NRMA late last year which was let’s use the money better, let’s find better ways to fix the potholes and adopt best practice and use new technology,” Mr Khoury said.

Deputy Premier Paul Toole confirmed the injection was on top of a $50 million package to fix roads in regional councils announced late last year.
