In a speech to the Liberal Party faithful, Dominic Perrottet said it has been a 'tough month' for his government, as he vowed to have more female and culturally diverse candidates, and less ideology in schools.

Mr Perrottet later noted a lesson from the Coalition's federal election loss in May was how the Liberal Party chooses its candidates. "Today I can announce that within two weeks we will open preselections across the state for the next election. He made particular mention of reforms to the education system, as he called for less ideology in schools.

The Premier also took a swipe at his Western Australian counterpart Mark McGowan in a pitch for reform to the nation's healthcare system.
