Animal rights group PETA is urging Aussies to 'stay away' from the newly built Western Sydney Zoo.
It will feature about 30 animal species of exotic and Australian animals including four lion brothers, three orang-utans, two cheetahs, three Zebras, three hyenas, 11 chimpanzees, and 13 baboons. Eventually, more than 2000 animals will call it home.
“Wild animals suffer tremendously, both physically and mentally, from the frustration of life in captivity, and they often display neurotic behaviour, such as incessant pacing, swaying, and bar-biting,” she said. “We urge Australians passionate about wild animals to stay away and instead donate to organisations that protect animals in their native habitats.
According to Sydney Zoo, the animals have arrived from some of the world’s most respected facilities including the Melbourne Zoo, Singapore Zoo, and the Taronga Conservation Society.
