The “Making History” concert will showcase new voices and transformative experiences for young singers, featuring new works by Bay Area native composers Eric Tuan and Jens Ibsen.

Ibsen will join the choirs for the world premiere of his work “A Portrait in Greys” commissioned by PEBCC for their advanced women’s chamber choir. Four of the choir’s advanced singers will debut as conducting scholars, leading their peers in “Four Estonian Lullabies” by Veljo Tormis.

“We pay respect to elders both past and present who have stewarded this land through generations,” Butkevich said, stressing the importance of this history to the PEBCC and its performances. The Golden Gate International Choral Festival in which the PEBCC participated, brought young musicians from 17 states, 28 countries and six continents to share their music, dance, costumes, traditions and customs highlighting the Bay Area’s diverse communities, which is of great importance to the organization.

The PEBCC currently runs 15 choirs in comprehensive Kindergarten through 12th grade programming. Many who have emerged from the choir’s programs have gone on to careers as musicians or other capacities in the music industry.
