A report outlining a proposed "special entertainment precinct" for Sydney's CBD reveals most bars, clubs and restaurants would be able to operate until as late as 3am if the City of Sydney votes to implement the changes next week.tabled by the NSW government to support live music and extended trading in the CBD without the need for additional licences or bureaucratic red tape.

The City of Sydney said the proposed changes mean a bar in Haymarket could trade until 2am and as late as 4am if it was providing entertainment.On Newtown's King Street, a bar could trade until 11pm or as late as 1am with live entertainment.Venues could also apply to be open for 24 hours a day under the reforms, but would need separate development application approval.

Noise complaints would still be able to be made, however, the dedicated precincts would allow a certain level of sound, yet to be determined, which would be trialled and tested over an 18-month period."We all want a nightlife we can be proud of, and that our global city deserves, so we have to do more to support this important sector," Moore said.

She said any and all changes would be made in consultation with the community and subject to a two-year trial period."I would also like to see the state government offer improved late-night public transport, including 24/7 Metro," Moore said. "This would not only help people to get around the city and enjoy all it has to offer, it would help hospitality workers, many of whom are young women, feel more comfortable in working a late shift and getting home safely."
