Prime Minister Scott Morrison fears up to three Australians could be among the five people confirmed dead in the New Zealand volcano eruption.
The prime minister said it was a “very difficult day” for Australians and the country needed to “brace” for the day ahead as the death toll was expected to rise. Mr Morrison confirmed 24 Australians, aged between 17 to 72-years-old, were on White Island at the time of the eruption. He also said 13 Australians were hospitalised across New Zealand while 11 were still unaccounted for.
