Richard Marles has hailed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's confirmation he will travel to Beijing for a meeting with President Xi Jinping later this year to mark the 50th anniversary of Gough Whitlam’s visit.
The trip, which was announced on Thursday, will be the first of an Australian Prime Minister to China since 2016.
“What we have sought to do without making any concessions to China, is to stabilise the relationship which now has seen trade come back on board with the result of thousands of jobs being put back in place,” he said.
