Scott Morrison has said lockdowns will not be returning, insisting 'measures that Australians can live with' will be put in place. 9News
The prime minister, along with state and territory leaders, is preparing for an emergency National Cabinet meeting to discuss rising coronavirus case numbers, including those of the Omicron variant.
"We understand that our leaders do not want to limit the freedoms of Australians, but we have to remember, we are in the middle of the global pandemic that has taken an extraordinary number of lives around the world," he said. State and territory leaders are set to press the prime minister to speed up the schedule for COVID-19 booster shots at tomorrow's emergency meeting.
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard and his Victorian counterpart Martin Foley have been calling for "specific determinations" for both states to have a fast-tracked booster program to curb increasing case numbers, Nine newspapers report. 9News has obtained a letter written by Mr Morrison to state and territory leaders which insists it is imperative for Australians to take responsibility for their own health during the rise of COVID-19 cases.
