Papua New Guinea's PM James Marape asserts that his country's attempt to join the NRL does not hinge on a security pact with Australia, dismissing links to China's influence in the country.
Papua New Guinea's prime minister has stated that his country's bid to join the National Rugby League ( NRL ) is not contingent upon a security agreement with Australia . Despite previous reports suggesting negotiations involved blocking China from gaining a military presence in PNG , Prime Minister James Marape insists there are no such conditions. The planned NRL team in Port Moresby is expected to be officially announced in Sydney next week, with Australia providing $600 million in support.
Marape emphasized that the NRL team's establishment is purely a sporting endeavor and not tied to security arrangements with Australia
