A superintendent investigating human remains found inside a burnt car has revealed officers 'don’t know what's occurred' as he made an appeal to the public for information to help solve the puzzle.
Commander of Sutherland Police Area Command Superintendent Craig Middleton addressed the media on Wednesday afternoon as a special strike force works with the homicide squad to investigate the incident.
A Toyota RAV4 was damaged in a fire in the Royal National Park on Monday night where the remains of a body were found.“Today is about appealing to those members of the public, particularly anybody who was driving along the Princes Highway between Engadine and Waterfall between the hours of about 6pm and midnight on Monday the 3rd of July,” Mr Middleton said.
“At this moment we really don’t know what’s occurred and the circumstances leading up to the vehicle fire and being in that location and/or the person’s remains being found in that vehicle so it’s really a big piece of the puzzle and we really need those members of the public to come forward who has any information.”
The police commander said there is no evidence to suggest that any foul play is involved or that it is organised crime related.
