"Based on an initial assessment of the fire scene, it is believed the fire was deliberately lit, and may have been ignited near Mammoth Cave," police said in a statement.Police would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the cave last Wednesday, or anyone with dash-cam or mobile phone vision of people or vehicles in the area on that day.Authorities will today continue to assess the trail of destruction left by the fire, which destroyed about 8,000 hectares.
Firefighters managed to save Conto's campground, where tents were left abandoned as the blaze came through.
