Redlands Mayor Karen Williams has been charged with drink-driving after police recorded a blood-alcohol content reading of 0.177 per cent.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams has been charged with drink-driving after crashing her car into a tree a week ago and will appear in court on August 1.

Police on Saturday morning formally charged Williams after she recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.177 per cent, more than three times the legal 0.05 per cent open licence level in Queensland. The charge is the more serious drink-driving charge, driving under the influence of alcohol, because of the alcohol reading. The charge follows an incident where police investigated a crashed Lexus station wagon at the intersection of Queen and Wellington streets in Cleveland on June 23.The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Williams was not seriously injured in the crash and was transported to hospital for further assessment.
