Emily Compton, 72, died Sept. 12 at Holy Spirit Hospital, two weeks after she was struck in downtown Carlisle.

CARLISLE — Carlisle police continue to investigate a pedestrian crash from August 29 that turned fatal last week.72, of the 200 block of South Pitt Street, Carlisle, died at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center on Sept. 12.

Full detail of the crash were not immediately available, but Rucinsky confirmed Compton was struck by a passing sport utility vehicle about 12:30 p.m. Aug. 29. The driver has not yet been publicly identified, but Rucinsky said police believe he was impaired at the time of the crash. Compton was a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, and she worked for many years as a telephone operator for the former Bell Telephone Company,Arrangements are being handled by Hoffman Funeral Home, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
