Police are trying to determine what caused three men to be 'catapulted' off a jet ski in south Sydney yesterday, killing the only rider on board who was not wearing a life jacket.

The body of a man who was "catapulted" from a jet ski yesterday in south Sydney has been found by police divers. The driver of the jet ski suffered a punctured lungThe 35-year-old, who was not wearing a life jacket, was one of three men riding a single jet ski at high speed in Burraneer Bay, near Port Hacking, about 7:30pm yesterday.

The 35-year-old was missing in the wake of the accident. A multi-agency search was launched but had to be suspended due to poor light. Investigations into what happened in the single-vehicle crash are ongoing and police divers are scouring the ocean floor for clues.Chief Inspector Joseph McNulty of Marine Area Command said witnesses told police the jet ski was travelling at high speed.

"Something has happened to that jet ski to have a single-vessel collision … it was a violent turn from the vessel which catapulted all three men into the water [and] the impact was hard, which may have caused this man to lose consciousness and sink to the bottom."
