Police say patrols followed a Ford sedan into a cul-de-sac just after 9pm and, when two officers got out of their car, it did a U-turn and struck the officer before driving off.The car was abandoned nearby but the occupants were not found.The 36-year old, from Elizabeth East, is in a critical condition in the same hospital.
Police are investigating if he was in the sedan involved in the hit-and-run or is linked in another way.
