The state's law enforcement watchdog says police must be passing inside information to bikie gangs
The state's law enforcement watchdog says police must be passing inside information to bikie gangs, who otherwise "could not be the major manufacturers of methamphetamine in NSW", in an example of "significant corruption" dogging the force.
The chief commissioner, who recently presided over two public hearings into claims of illegal strip searches performed by NSW Police, said there was difficulty in operating a "reactive" organisation that responded to complaints."We know that there must be significant corruption going on, otherwise, for example, bikie gangs could not be the major manufacturers of methamphetamine in NSW. It can only be done with some degree of inside information," Mr Adams said.
“You could not have a more compelling reason to ensure that all of the state’s oversight bodies, but critically the LECC, are given the funding they need,” Mr Shoebridge said after the hearing. The chief commissioner said LECC had "excellent relations" with NSW Police and an increasing proportion of complaints were coming from within the force, but a backlog meant many had to "drop off".
