Five people have been arrested, including two teenagers, after police were allegedly punched and spat at during an altercation in Melbourne's outer-west.
Police were called to a group of up to 50 people allegedly throwing bottles and gathering at a recreational area on Long Tree Drive in Harkness about 5pm yesterday. Officers attempted to move the group on while warning them about breaching coronavirus restrictions when one was allegedly spat at.Another officer was "king hit" after being set upon by a group while trying to arrest a man in a carpark.
"As police attempted to arrest a man, they were set upon by about five to 10 other people and an officer was punched twice to the back of the head," A Victoria Police spokesperson said."He was later treated for-non-life-threatening injuries." Deputy Commissioner Rick Nugent today condemned the recent violent behaviour towards police as "disgraceful".
