11 Father Amorth Never Shot A Pig During An Exorcism At the beginning of The Pope's Exorcist, Father Amorth travels to Tropea, Italy, a small village with a terrified priest who isn't skilled enough to face a possessed local. Father Amorth doesn't believe the man is truly possessed after spending some time with him, but nevertheless challenges the demonic entity inside his body to possess a pig he's brought with him.
9 The Plot Of The Pope's Exorcist Is An Original Story Though The Pope's Exorcist is based on thousands of Father Amorth's accounts of possession, screenwriter Michael Petroni cherry-picked pieces from his books rather than adapt one particular exorcism. The entire plot of the movie, in which Crowe's Amorth travels to Spain to save a 10-year-old boy possessed by Asmodeus, as well as the Vatican conspiracy, is all fictional.

This scene establishes Crowe's Father Amorth as more of a demon-hunting badass than the real priest, an amalgamation of Van Helsing with Dirty Harry.
5 The Spanish Inquisition Was Not The Work Of Demons Towards the end of The Pope's Exorcist, Father Amorth uncovers a truth that shatters the very foundation of the Catholic Church; the demon Asmodeus once possessed the exorcist Alonso de Ojega and through him, convinced Queen Isabella II to start the Spanish Inquisition. This exculpates the Catholic Church and blames the atrocities committed in 1478 on demonic possession.
